Connecticut Drone Photography: The Peacock Alley Mural Project
Updated: Jun 4
In August of 2019, I had come across an Instagram post about The Peacock Alley Mural Project. This particular art mural was going to be worked on near the Arcade Mall and Read's artspace in Bridgeport, CT. Groundwork Bridgeport, Colorful Bridgeport, Bridgeport Arts & Cultural Council, BPT Creates, and The Trust for Public Land were looking for people interested in painting one of Bridgeport's largest and most impressive sidewalk murals. I have always enjoyed public art, and this was my opportunity to highlight what a little color can do. The 5,000 sq ft walkway alley behind the Historic Arcade Mall and the Reads Art Space was to get a very colorful upgrade to "Peacock Alley." I reached out to BPT Creates to ask if he could let me know when it would be convenient to take some pictures. After some correspondence and a quick phone call, I asked him to reach out to confirm when the mural would be complete, so I could get authorization to fly my drone over to take a few aerial photos.
I enjoy the sense of discovery that I am experiencing while doing these photos. I to take a look around for things I otherwise wouldn't have noticed. Bridgeport is experiencing such a vibrant resurgence, and it's all there to experience!! I enjoy seeing the city I grew up in working hard to make it inviting and beautiful. I'm glad I could help people see it from a different point of view.
More than just a Mural
Walking by the 5,000 sq ft Alley now "Peacock Alley," you'd be drawn away by the mural of beautiful patterns around you because of its enchanting nature, but this stunning work of art isn't just another mural on an Alley; it represents something more.
The Peacock is known to have many colors, arguably the most beautiful bird, a beautiful work of nature. Its colors transform a regular space in the Alley to a thing of beauty.
Bridgeport, CT, radiates with the diversity of different shades of businesses, food, people, and art. The color symbolizes how CT residents can add to the vibrancy of our diverse town.
It's an invitation to spread color and love through public art and events to improve our community's lives. Growing up in Bridgeport, I can't help but want to be more involved in documenting the journey and the change! I love this city, and I hope you do too!
Drone Pics of the Peacock Alley Mural
After they finished the project, I took stunning aerial photos of this work of art at an elevated angle that you would not see while walking by the Alley on a typical day, and I'm glad how they turned out. Drone imaging gives you more perspective on what could have been an ordinary picture.
The pictures capture the Peacock's enchanting colors on a warm evening, igniting in your soul the beauty in the diversity of our beloved community. Why wouldn't any business want to have a share of these photos to display on their walls to commemorate its place in the Bridgeport community?
